Project Overview

The Ajman Hospital extension for Sheikh Khalifa Medical City was designed to address the specialized healthcare needs of women and children in the region. The facility enhances healthcare delivery with advanced medical services, focusing on Obstetrics, Gynecology, Pediatrics, and urgent care. This project exemplifies a collaboration between Bayaty Architects and Perkins Eastman, combining local expertise with international healthcare design standards.

Goals & Objectives

The primary aim was to create a world-class healthcare facility tailored to women and children, focusing on:

  • Expanding SKMCA’s capabilities to serve the growing healthcare needs of the Ajman community.
  • Providing state-of-the-art clinical services, including neonatal intensive care and specialized obstetric and pediatric care.
  • Designing a patient-centered environment that fosters comfort, privacy, and healing for patients and their families.

Challenges

  • Integration with Existing Infrastructure: Designing an extension that seamlessly integrates with the existing hospital while maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Specialized Functional Needs: Addressing the complex requirements of clinical services like Neonatal ICU, delivery rooms, and pediatric care within a cohesive architectural framework.
  • Capacity Planning: Ensuring the new facility could accommodate increasing patient volumes while maintaining high-quality care.

  • Comprehensive Bed Capacity: A total of 128 beds, including:
    • 14 delivery beds.
    • 17 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) beds.
    • 4 Maternity and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (MPICU) beds.
    • 40 Maternity Ward beds.
    • 25 Pediatric Ward beds.
    • 24 Well Baby Unit (WBU) beds.
    • 4 VIP beds for specialized care and comfort.

    • Obstetrics and Gynecology.
