The history of Bayaty.
1970s
Bayaty Architects was founded in Baghdad in 1978, establishing its first roots in the region. The early practice focused on design research and small commissions, guided by a philosophy of combining cultural identity with contemporary design principles.
1980s
Through projects and competitions, Bayaty Architects developed a reputation for rigorous design thinking and a contextual approach to architecture. The office balanced practice with academic exchange, laying the foundations for a philosophy-driven practice that bridged theory and building.
1990s
Identity
Bayaty Architects gained recognition through major competition wins, most notably the State Grand Mosque in Baghdad (1995). These successes defined the firm’s identity as a practice capable of delivering ambitious, large-scale projects with cultural and spiritual depth.
2000s
Expansion
In 1997, Bayaty Architects established its Abu Dhabi office, marking a new chapter in the firm’s history. From civic and institutional buildings to urban developments, Bayaty Architects expanded across the UAE and the wider Middle East, winning numerous national design competitions and delivering landmark projects such as the Sharjah Courts Complex (2000) and Abu Dhabi Rehabilitation Center (1999).
2010s
Recognition
Bayaty Architects matured into one of the region’s most esteemed architectural offices, with a portfolio that included the Al Ain Grand Mosque (2014), Urban Planning Council Headquarters, Abu Dhabi (2015), and Cityland Mall, Dubai (2016). Its work was consistently awarded for excellence, reflecting both design innovation and cultural resonance.
2020s
Today, Bayaty Architects continues to design mosques, civic institutions, residential developments, and urban masterplans across the Middle East.
